Play-fight at Dusk

This project was pure fun! It is carved from a single block of lime and mounted on a lovely piece of cherry. It was carved entirely by hand over late July-early August, taking about a month from design to finish and brings together elements from earlier works. The design was inspired by my brother's dogs and my first brush with Celtic knot carving for the Dancing Cross. The caricatured style is like my Wolf and Crane and the harmonious composition was influenced by my carving of the Fox wedding invitation. The silver moon anticipates a future project for St Peter ad Vincula, Hampton Lucy, which will also have a gilded disc reflecting light from the back.
