To commemorate the two hundred years since the building of Hampton Lucy's beautiful church in Warwickshire, I am carving a panel that will be dedicated on November 22nd, 2026. You can follow my progress on Instagram @jlwoodcarver. The church is dedicated to St Peter Ad Vincula (St Peter in Chains). My deep relief carving, measuring a metre in width and 200mm in depth, is based on a painting by Raphael in the Vatican c.1514. It shows an angel releasing St Peter from his imprisonment by King Herod. 'And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison.' Acts 12.7 I had a lot of help laminating the blocks and preparing the wood, for which I am very grateful! It's beautiful lime from an estate in Yorkshire supplied by English Woods.
